Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated annually on 2nd October to commemorate the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi. The day is observed as a public and bank holiday across the nation.
Educational institutions are also closed on this day to honor Gandhiji who is considered as the ‘’Father of the Nation’’ because of his leadership during the freedom struggle that led to India’s independence from the British in 1947.
On this day, tributes are paid to Gandhiji all over the country in schools, colleges, government offices, as well as in social, political, and private organizations.
He played an enormous role in attaining freedom from British. It is a great opportunity for the countrymen to pay homage to this great leader, who sacrificed his life for the betterment of the country.
Commemorative activities include prayer meetings, devotional songs including his favorite ‘’Raghupati Raghava Raja Ram’’, award presentations, and rallies.
