“I’m excited to return to the heart of Austin for 'First and Foremost: Where East Meets West' at the Stateside Theater at the Paramount,” said Nagavalli. “I have never been bound by genres, and this show is not just a performance, it's a celebration of diverse music and the beautiful tapestry that we can weave together.”
A recent honoree of the Global Music Awards for creativity, originality and female vocals, and nominee for the Austin Chronicle’s 2023-2024 Austin Music Awards in the Best World category, Nagavalli has made quite the buzz over the last year in both her music career and volunteer efforts in the Austin music scene. Indeed, following the release of her latest record, “Numinosum” in February 2023, the City of Austin proclaimed Feb. 11, 2023 as "Nagavalli Day" in honor of her musicianship and contributions to the local music community. That evening she performed a transcending sold-out album release show at the Stateside Theater joined by local music stars and friends BettySoo, Carrie Rodriguez, Oliver Rajamani, Patrice Pike and Indrajit Banerjee. “Numinosum” is now available on all digital platforms and listeners can stream the album here. Additionally, last year, Nagavalli was elected as the Chair of the Austin Music Commission and the Mayor of Austin, Kirk Watson’s appointee to the Arts Commission making history as the first Asian-American Chair of the City’s Music Commission and the first dual appointee to both the Austin Music Commission and the Austin Arts Commission. “Nagavalli’s release show for her amazing new album ‘Numinosum’ will be one of my favorite concerts of 2023,” said Jody Denberg of KUTX. “She is less a performer and more a spirit taking flight through her music and players. It was proclaimed Nagavalli Day (City of Austin) at Stateside at the Paramount that evening. Every day Nagavalli shares her music is her day - and our blessing.”
“The Indian singer’s third full-length, culminates an Austin music scene evolution hovering just past twin decades,” said Raoul Hernandez of The Austin Chronicle. “Potent and immediate, the album vibrates, emanates, elucidates a world fusion for jet-setters and Travis Heights denizens alike. Indian twang for hippies and East Cesar Chavez dwellers, diva soul for soccer moms in ATX satellite burbs, its public radio clarity proves visceral indeed: spacious yet weird, distant but universal, unsubtitled and liberated. “Numinosum” is Nagavalli’s moment — here, there, everywhere.”As Nagavalli gears up for her return to the Stateside Theater, fans can expect a captivating showcase, featuring special renditions of new songs from “Numinosum” as well as familiar tracks from her vast repertoire performed alongside many other Austin music icons. The new album features Nagavalli’s signature indo-fusion sound which seamlessly blends east-Indian melodies with pop, rock and other modern genres that have influenced her music. Many of the songs convey deep emotions and experiences, such as a yearning for profound human connection, spirituality, optimism during times of grief, resilience, love and freeing oneself from the burdens of labels and judgment.
