admin@qs3 | October 5, 2018
Asha-Austin, the Austin chapter of Asha for Education, is launching its Strides of Hope 2018, an endurance long-distance running program, with the upcoming session from Oct 2018 – Feb 2019 for both beginner and experienced runners. The session targets two half-marathon race events and one full-marathon event. The experienced coaches offer personalized coaching enabling both beginner and experienced runners cross the finish line. Team Asha also provides a mentorship program to work closely with the runners to help them keep up with their training schedule and also help in their fund-raising to meet their commitments, over the entire session. 100% of the funds raised directly go to support education related projects for underprivileged children in India. Since 2005, over 200 beginner and experienced runners have successfully trained with Team Asha Austin to achieve their fitness goals while raising over $400,000 to support Asha for Education projects. Our main objective is to help you cross the finish line as you take on this challenging personal quest towards completing your first half/ full-marathon.
Asha-Austin, currently supports four projects and a fellowship, with an annual disbursement of around $50,000. The GSK Girirajpura School in Rajasthan, is a new school set up in 2014, which focuses on alternative education. Asha-Austin currently supports teacher salaries and program costs for the school. Mathru foundation, is a home based in Bangalore for the physically challenged. Asha-Austin has been supporting the education, food and medical treatment costs of the children since 2015. Khushboo Welfare Society, a project since 2016, is a holistic center for children with mental disabilities, in Gurgaon. Asha-Austin supports salaries of teachers imparting yoga, dance, music, and computer education and therapists conducting occupational therapy, physiotherapy and speech therapy Its latest project, from 2018, is Nethra Vidyalaya, a residential school in Vishakapatnam, providing education, boarding and lodging for visually impaired children. Asha-Austin supports salaries of teachers of Nethra. Siddamma, an Asha-Fellow, supported by Asha-Austin, since 2015 works on freeing bonded Irula laborers, education of their children, and empowering communities. This year, Asha-Austin plans to start the Support a Child initiative for GSK and Khushboo.
